The Peruvian District of Locumba is one of the 3 districts of the Jorge Basadre Province, located in the Department of Tacna, belonging to the Tacna Region, in southern Peru.



Locumba is the capital of the Jorge Basadre Province, which was created on April 21, 1988, in the first government of President Alan García Pérez.







Located 80 km northwest of the city of Tacna (1 hour, 30 minutes by car), it is an inter-Andean valley that was famous for its vines and its first quality wine and pisco industry. Currently, agricultural activity predominates, with its chili pepper production standing out. In the city of Locumba, capital of the province of Jorge Basadre Province, is the Sanctuary of the Lord of Locumba also called ´´Lord of the Burnt Feet´´. The feast of the Lord of Locumba takes place in September and has been celebrated in the region since 1776.





In the district of Locumba, the most outstanding festivity is that of Señor de Locumba or "The Lord of Burnt Feet", which is celebrated every September 14 and brings together a large number of national and international parishioners Considered as a sanctuary in honor the saint that the population venerates, this Peruvian district is one of the 3 districts of the Jorge Basadre province located 80 km northwest of the city of Tacna. This sanctuary was built thanks to the donations of the devotees of the Lord of Locumba. Inside the temple there is a central nave with a half-barrel vault, where the image of Christ on a cross covered in silver stands out.



Without a doubt, the “Señor de Locumba” festival is one of the most popular religious celebrations in the south of the country. Faithful, from all over Peru and the world, come to this sanctuary with pictures, rosaries, pictures, among other objects; and they make long lines to enter the temple. For their part, some religious dancers offer their dance to God as a prayer.
