The K'ana nation arose under the influence of the Tiahuanako and Wari empires, later it passed to the Inca domain, then the colonial regime was implanted with the arrival of the Spanish, who broke the imperial harmony and organization, the indigenous people of Copora who always contributed tributes in the form regulate the colony. In the visits that Viceroy Toledo made to the Crown mines, he already mentioned Coporaque (1572) in his visits to said mines.
During the viceroyalty government, the K'ana territory came to belong to the village of Tinta, standing out as the most important city in the Colony.
Coporaque, is a place of legends with abundant colonial memories that transports us to the wonderful times of traditions, lavishness, religious festivals and a historical past such as the uprising of Tupac Amaru, so the province of K´anas From where Coporaque arises, it is the true cradle of the independence of South America. Several men, women, children and the elderly gave their lives for a noble cause of freedom and independence for the oppressed peoples of America.
However, to date this honorable and exclusive title has not been officially recognized: ´´The Cradle of Freedom and Independence of South America´´, which constitutes a grave injustice and a regrettable act of ingratitude of the Peruvian and American people; Since then and until now, it has not received the attention it deserves to promote its development, which as a managing province of our independence it deserves. The governments of the colony marginalized him in retaliation for the rebelliousness he demonstrated, and even today he remains marginalized.
In the republican era Coporaque became the capital of the province of Kana, by law of August 13, 1834; Before, from 1822 to 1833 this Kana nation was called the Tinta Province. In 1833 the province of Tinta was divided into two provinces: Kanas and Canchis. In 1863 Coporaque ceased to be the capital of the province of Kanas because it was far away and the town of Yanaoca was designated as the new capital.
In 1917 it became a district of the province of Espinar. Currently Coporaque has 19 Peasant Communities.
Coporaque, is located in the Province of Espinar in the Department of Cuzco.
