Mar Chiquita is a small beach surrounded by rocks that serve as breakwaters. In the middle of these rocks there is a cavity where the tide enters and forms a U-shaped wave within the beach. Its sand is coarse and has a large number of snails. It is not recommended for swimming, due to its strong currents and stones.
Get to the municipality of Manatí in the north of the island of Puerto Rico. Manatí is on the shore of Mar Chiquita beach.
La Mar Chiquita is one of the most beautiful beaches in this state of Manatí and a beach festival is celebrated in the month of July, every year and for the day of Candelaria, on February 2 the patron saint festivities are celebrated. On June 23, the Eve of San Juan is celebrated in Puerto Rico. For many years the Municipal Administration of Manatí celebrated this event with live music to the delight of the people that eve of San Juan. In 1988 WMNT 1500 AM “Radio Atenas” in conjunction with the Municipal Administration and its mayor “Bin” celebrated the “Mar Chiquita Festival” for the first time with 3 days of live shows in the previews of the Mar Chiquita Beach in Manatí. Rubén D’J, an artist of the most “catchy” rap genre at that time, participated in that first festival. After that year the Municipal Administration continues to celebrate the Eve of San Juan on June 23, it is not until 1999 that the “Nueva Radio Atenas” is born that the tradition of celebrating the Mar Chiquita Festival for more than one day returns. It is the "Festival Mar Chiquita" a family festival where whole families come together to enjoy the beach and share in healthy fun. The Office of Recreation and Sports of the Municipality of Manatí organizes a series of family sporting events such as: children's boxing, beach volleyball, basketball, stick “encebao”, sack race, rooster fights, dominoes, among others ...
