Located in the south of the state of Bahia, it originated from a Jesuit village called São João Batista dos Índios, founded in 1586. It was rediscovered in the late 70s by a group of hippies. At the time, it was just a group of houses on either side of a large lawn with a church in the background, overlooking the sea.



Today, this space, which is Praça São João in the historic center of Trancoso, is called ´´Quadrado´´. From the 90's, with the increase of tourism in the state, and the construction of roads and airports, the tourist potential of the region underwent a vertiginous growth.



This city is an important historical place, because it is one of the few places in Brazil where the original urban design is still preserved since the time of discovery.





Located in Bahia near Porto Seguro and Arraial d'Ajuda, the small village of Trancoso is an ideal place for those looking for tranquility and want to escape the hustle and stress of big cities. Trancoso has about 12 km of beaches that stretch until joining Arraial d'Ajuda.





The beaches of Nativos and Coqueiros surround the entire village of Trancoso. Near Rio Verde beach, with the open sea, there is a lagoon that invites tourists to take a dip in fresh and refreshing water. A little further from the village is Itapororoca. In it, the reefs form a protective barrier creating a large natural pool, in a calm and calm sea.



Another attraction in Trancoso is Lagoa Azul, which is located on the road between Trancoso and Arraial d'Ajuda, closer to Arraial, just after Praia de Pitinga. This pond is famous for its clay, which has medicinal properties.



Currently, Trancoso has become one of the most sought after destinations in Bahia, thanks to the increase in the offer of flights and places for accommodation, in addition to the growth in the number of projects being built by millionaires in the city. But everyone coexists in perfect harmony in this village, and the meeting point for all the tribes is in the historic square. Large hotel chains living in harmony with simple inns. During carnival, Trancoso is an ideal destination for those looking for rest, tranquility and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of large Brazilian capitals. In fact, it is very common for people to enjoy the carnivals of Porto Seguro and Arraial d'Ajuda (which are close and have very lively parties) and then return to Trancoso to rest.



On January 20 of each year, the Festa de São Sebastião is celebrated, very popular and joyful, where the entire native population, as well as tourists, actively participate. organizing committees. The day before, chants are chanted, like mantras.



On the day of the festival, the men carry a wooden pole over 10 meters high, topped with the flag of São Sebastião, replacing the one from the previous year.
