The Schöneberger Südgelände Nature Park is an 18-hectare park in the Schöneberg district of Berlin, which extends over the better route of the Anhalter- und Dresdnerbahn, the other part of the Tempelhof marshalling yard and the Rheeber bahnhoferhofserheiten The park is characterized by the combination of decaying railway systems, nature conservation and new art objects.
Outside of Berlin, the park became known as part of the Expo 2000.
After the opening of the Berlin-Anhalt Railway in 1841 and the Berlin-Dresden Railway in 1875, the tracks on both lines relate to the old Prellerweg on a different route. In 1889 it was established that the Tempelhof marshalling yard became. To the north of the Prellerweg, the Tempelhof marshalling yard was protected in 1931.
On May 18, 1952, political control of the Anhalter Bahnhof was taken down, and all long-distance tracks from there were dismantled; the western half of the Tempelhof marshalling yard was shut down. Since then, the long-distance railway tracks and the marshalling yard rights have been recaptured by nature. The eastern half of the marshalling yard was continued for a heard shunting operation, the depot was converted into the headquarters of the bridge maintenance department West of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.
At the end of the years to build on the site of a new southern freight station, which owns all freight stations in the south of Berlin. To do this, you receive your rights between the Berlin Senate and the Reichsbahnführung. In 1980 the clearing of the completely overgrown area, the citizens' initiative to protect the ecological value of the site and the clearing control. In 1989 the plans for the south freight station were dealt with.
Water tower
Since 2006, the framework of the mushroom concept has been part of the new route of the Anhalter- und Dresdner Bahn on the eastern edge of the old marshalling yard. To the east of it there are still several no longer facing the tracks, as well as one less used freight track of the Berlin Ringbahn to the Dresden Railway.
The Reichsbahn controls 1993 become their own of their own depot. In 1995 the Deutsche Bahn AG transferred the area to the Senate to compensate for interferences in nature in connection with the expansion of the traffic facilities in the city center. The expansion in the direction of the state-owned Grün Berlin GmbH, the Allianz Umweltstiftung Verwaltung the project with 1.8 million marks.
In addition to the Britzer Garten and Marzahn recreation park, the park is one of the three “large” parks of the state-owned Grün Berlin Park und Garten GmbH. In the spring of 1999 he was granted nature and landscape protection. It was symbolically rejected in 1999 and was an official EXPO project in 2000.
Many plant, mushroom and animal species live in the nature park that are not often found in such a small area in inner-city locations. The plot of ruderal vegetation and the future fauna of the site are well treated. There you can see 366 different species of fern and flowering plants, 49 species of large mushrooms, 49 species of birds, 14 species of locusts and crickets, 57 species of spiders and 95 species of bees, of which more than 60 have been heard.
Parts of the park are designated as a nature reserve, here the paths are not abandoned, and birds nesting on the ground cannot be heard. The path through the nature reserve is over 600 meters of steel grids, which are rights over the forest floor, through the series of steel pipes that lie on the old rails. Through this art of guiding, the freedom of the path is enough space for animals to move, so that the path does not belong to the area in two parts and the rainwater belongs to the soil.
There is an observation tower in the nature reserve.
Parts of the old railway systems are still preserved. The approximately 50 meter high water tower of the old depot is gilded as a landmark of the park that can be seen from afar. The old class 50 steam locomotive from 1940 and the Ere turntable are also remnants of the certain railway depot. In the south-western area of the park there are two large overpass structures that served to branch off the Anhalter and Dresdener Bahn without crossing until 1952.
Joint, permanently installed art objects by the artist group Odius can be viewed in the park. Café Paresüd and the administration are located in the building of the personal bridge master's office. The park sales are offered under those offered by the Berlin Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND). The park is year round. Over the north and over the Prellerweg. The Berlin open space concept as part of the north-south-green connection provides for the nature park to be specified via the park expansion of the bottleneck between Yorckstrasse and the Monumentenbrücke and the park at Gleisdreiff.
There are also a number of allotment garden colonies on the south site with more than 2,600 allotment gardens.
